It was a great weekend for NC State gymnastics. In front of 2,500 fans, we began the 2010 season with the highest opening score in the programs history! The 193.825 also landed us ranked 23rd in the country. We had a very solid meet with beam and bars leading he way. Both of these events are ranked in the top-25. Beam is 14th and bars is 18th. Way to go ladies!
Our team were very nervous and ready to get the season under way. As a staff, we thought they handled the pressure extremely well. Our goal was to be nice and steady throughout the competition. Congrats to senior Taylor Seaman who captured the all-around title and sophomore Brooke Barr who competed all four events for the first time in her collegiate career and scored a 39.
I would personally like to thank all the staff and alumni who came to celebrate Mark Stevenson's 30th year with the Wolfpack. It was a fantastic way to kick off the season. He was very surprised with all the support from family and friends! Karen Pleasants, Adina Stock and Joyce Stevenson did a marvelous job coordinating all aspects of the evening.
Dr. Shannon Yates, Assistant Athletic Directors for Varsity Sports, presented Mark and the program with a wonderful gift..she endowed a scholarship! I know that Mark and all the gymnast were very excited by this generous donation.
We are off to West Virginia the weekend! Go Pack!!
