Gymnastics Opens Season With Win Over Rutgers

RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State gymnastics opened its 2010 season with a strong showing over Rutgers, 193.825 - 188.100. Senior Taylor Seaman scored a 39.100 in the all-around to lead all gymnasts, and she also won three of the four events. Sophomore Brooke Barr won vault and finished with a 39.000 in her first ever all-around competition.
For head coach Mark Stevenson - who started the program back in 1981 - the meet opened his 30th season. More than 50 former gymnasts and coaches came back to Raleigh for a post-meet celebration of Stevenson's career and to witness his 443rd victory in front of 2,516 fans in Reynolds Coliseum.
Seaman scored a 9.875 on floor, 9.825 on beam and a 9.8 on bars in winning each event. She also finished sixth on vault.
Barr wasn't far behind, as she won vault with a 9.825, was second on beam with a 9.750, second on floor with a 9.825 and second in the all-around with a 39.000. She was also sixth on bars.
Freshman Rachel Fincham and senior Lauren Deuser tied for second on bars with a 9.775. Deuser was also third on beam with a 9.725.
NC State won all four events as a team, with a 48.525 on vault, 48.675 on bars, 48.600 on beam and a 48.025 on floor.
