RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State men's soccer associate head coach Dan Popik has been honored as the 2009 NSCAA South Region Assistant Coach of the Year.
Popik helped lead the Pack to a 13-7-2 record this season, and a NCAA Tournament birth. NC State received a first-round bye, and was the No. 15 overall seed in the tournament. The Pack also reached the ACC Championship game, and was ranked the last 11 weeks of the season.
"Dan is so deserving of this reward, for the time and dedication he has put into this program," said NC State head coach George Tarantini. "For us to have had such a successful season, Dan deserves so much of the credit. He has all the tools to be a successful head coach some day, and this is the perfect indication of that."
Popik will receive their honors at the 2010 NSCAA Convention in Philadelphia, Pa. He will be honored, along with the other regional winners, at the NSCAA/adidas College Coaches Awards Reception on Thursday, January 14th. The Glenn "Mooch" Myernick National Assistant Coach of the Year Award will be announced and presented at the NSCAA Awards Banquet on Friday, January 15th.
