RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State men’s soccer team will hit the road this weekend, as the Wolfpack (1-0) travels to Durham for a pair of games in the Duke Classic. NC State will take on Denver on Friday at 5:00 p.m., and then face Columbia on Sunday at 12:00 p.m.
NC State is 1-0 on the season, as the Pack opened its season with a 3-1 win over visiting Winthrop on Tuesday. The Pack found the back of the net twice in the first half, and sustained that lead to get the early season victory.
Both Ronnie Bouemboue and Kris Byrd contributed a goal and an assist apiece in the first half to build the Pack’s lead. Junior Akil DeFreitas scored in his first game at NC State late in the second half.
Denver and Columbia will each be playing their first game of the season. Last season, Denver finished with a 10-7-2 record, but their 8-1-1 conference record earned the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Columbia finished last year at 4-12-1, but will enter their first season under the direction of former Boston College assistant head coach Kevin Anderson, who was named the top assistant coach in the country each of the last two seasons.
This weekends tournament makes the final tune-up before ACC play begins, as the Pack travels to No. 1 North Carolina on September 12.
