No. 16 Men's Soccer Visits Virginia Tech

Raleigh, N.C. – The 16th ranked NC State men’s soccer team will be in road action this weekend, as the Wolfpack travels to Virginia Tech to take on the Hokies on Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m.
The Pack is off to a 4-1-1 start to the 2009 season, and is ranked for the third straight week. NC State’s highest ranking in the four national polls is No. 16 according to the NSCAA. NC State also checks in at No. 17 in Soccer America, No. 20 in Soccer Times, and No. 21 according to CollegeSoccerNews.com.
The contest against the Hokies marks the Pack’s first ACC opponent this season that was not ranked in the top-five nationally. NC State started its conference slate with a 2-1 loss at No. 3 North Carolina, and last weekend earned a draw with No. 4 Maryland at home, 1-1.
Virginia Tech comes into the game spotting a 2-3-2 overall record, but the Hokies are 1-0 in ACC play after gaining a 4-2 win at Clemson last weekend. In midweek action this week, Virginia Tech fell to American at home, 1-0.
Senior Brendan Dunn has played all 680 minutes in goal this season, recording a 1.19 GAA average and a shutout at Wisconsin. Charlie Campbell leads the Hokies with a pair of goals and five points on the season.
NC State leads the overall series with Virginia Tech, 10-3-1, including winning three of the last four contests. Last season, the Pack took out the Hokies 2-0 in the regular season in Raleigh, and again at the ACC Tournament, 3-1. NC State is 1-2-1 all-time in Blacksburg, and fell last visit 3-0 in 2007.
