Keri DeMar led the Pack offense with 12 kills, while Kelly Wood added nine. Kelly Burns lifted 26 set assists, and Jana Angel had four total blocks and dropped the team’s lone service ace. Lindsay Benac etched 19 digs, while DeMar (12), Taylor Pritchard (11), and Wood (10) all recorded double-digit dig totals of their own.
High Point led throughout the entire first frame, winning 25-18. The Pack bounced back in the second, hitting a match-high .171 with 12 kills, but still fell 25-23. NC State trailed late in play at 23-20, but quickly knotted things up with three consecutive scores. Two straight Panther points followed however, ending the Pack’s chance at taking the set.
Fifteen tied scores and five lead changes highlighted a competitive third stanza, which High Point ultimately won in extra play at 26-24. Both teams exchanged points until midway through the action when the Panthers grabbed a 16-13 lead on a Breanna Holliday ace, but the Pack fought back and tied the score at 23-all on a DeMar kill. The Panthers later served for match point only to have Angel tie things up again at 24-24 with a kill, but High Point immediately snagged the next two points.
NC State will face LaSalle later today at 5 p.m.
