RALEIGH, N.C. – After playing three of its first four games of the season away from home, the NC State men’s soccer team will return to the friendly confines of the Dail Soccer Field Tuesday night when Campbell comes to town for a non-conference showdown at 7:00 p.m.
The Wolfpack (3-1, 0-1 ACC) dropped its lone game last week, narrowly falling at No. 3 North Carolina, 2-1. NC State struck first just 70 seconds into the contest when senior Alan Sanchez netted his first score of the season. But UNC would answer with a penalty kick just before halftime, and score the eventual gamewinner in the 65th minute.
NC State fell slightly in the national polls as a result, as the Pack is currently No. 22 according to Soccer America and No. 23 by CollegeSoccerNews.com (the NSCAA poll comes out Tuesday).
Senior Ronnie Bouemboue continues to lead the Pack’s attack, as he leads the squad in points with seven on the season, two goals and three assists. Bouemboue had one of the assists on Sanchez’s goal at UNC, and now has recorded at least a point in every game this season and seven of the last eight games dating back to last season. Sanchez’s tally was his first of the season, and he is tied with Bouemboue for the team lead in assists with three.
Senior Christopher Widman had played all 360 minutes in goal thus far, and currently posts a GAA of just 0.75 and has notched a pair of shutouts through the four games.
Campbell sports a record of 1-3 on the season, with each contest being by a margin of just one goal. Over the weekend, Campbell fell at Charlotte, 2-1.
NC State has won eight straight against Campbell, and the Pack holds an all-time record of 22-6-2 including a 12-1-2 margin in games played in Raleigh. NC State came away with a 2-0 win at Campbell in 2005, the last time the teams met.
