RALEIGH, N.C. – NC State volleyball ended the Raleigh Crabtree Valley Marriott Classic with a 3-2 win over Dartmouth on Saturday, Sept. 12 at Reynolds Coliseum. The victory moves the Wolfpack to 6-5 on the year, while the Big Green slides to 2-4.
Kelly Wood recorded a double-double with 16 kills and 14 digs, and was named to the all-tournament team for her efforts throughout the two-day spread. Margaret Salata led the Pack offense with 17 kills, while Lisa Kretchman added 14. Kelly Burns recorded 53 set assists, 10 digs and five total blocks, and Lindsay Benac’s 28 digs was a team-best. Sarah Griggs and Taylor Pritchard each landed two aces.
Dartmouth grabbed the opening set 20-25 before the Pack tied things up with a 25-22 win in the second. NC State led by as many as seven, but the Big Green chipped away at the lead and cut it to just two at 24-22 late in play. A kill from Salata put things to an end.
The Pack continued its hot hand in taking the third stanza 25-23. Salata and Kretchman combined for 10 of the team’s 17 kills, while a Keri DeMar score gave the Pack the lead for good at 5-4 early on. Dartmouth then extended play by taking the fourth set 19-25.
It was all NC State in the fifth and final frame, as the Pack rode a 15-8 score to a match victory. The Wolfpack drilled eight kills with just two attack errors for a match-best .333 hitting attack, while Dartmouth struggled to mount any offense.
NC State will resume play next weekend, Sept. 18-19, at the UNC Greensboro Tournament in Greensboro, N.C.
