Women's Soccer Reignites ECU Rivalry Friday

RALEIGH, N.C. – NC State wraps up its four-game home stretch with a Friday match against East Carolina at 7 p.m., from Dail Soccer Field.
The Pack is off to a 4-1 start this season and has outscored its opponents 13-2 so far in 2009. The Wolfpack recorded its third shutout of the season last Sunday with a 4-0 win over Stony Brook.
Sophomore forward Paige Dugal and freshman midfielder Kara Blosser each scored two goals to lead the offensive attack against the Seawolves.
NC State sophomore keeper Kim Kern has started all five matches, allowing just two goals in over 414 minutes. Her 0.43 goals against average is fourth in the ACC, while her save percentage ranks third at .833. Kern is also tied for third with two shutouts.
Sophomore forward Tanya Cain is one of three players in the ACC to have three goals in a game this season. She was named ACC Co-Player of the Week last week after the hat trick against Davidson
Cain and freshman Kara Blosser are tied for seventh in the league with four goals scored apiece, while Cain and classmate Paige Dugal have each tallied two game-winning goals this season.
Scouting East Carolina
The Pirates suffering its first loss of the season at No. 17 Wake Forest on Sunday. ECU struggled on offense, managing only three shots, with one on goal. Jen Kurowicki made four saves for the Pirates while Berit Hansen tallied three.
Amanda Malkiewicz, Bailey Wilcox, Kimmy Cummings and Rachel Wechsler lead ECU with five points apiece. Wechsler tops the club with three assists, while the other three have scored two goals on the season.
Kurowicki has a 1.00 GAA in four games played with seven saves, while Hansen owns a 2.00 GAA with eight saves.
All-Time Series
The game against ECU will be the fourth in the series with the Pirates holding a 2-1 advantage. The programs last met August 26, 2000, in Raleigh, when ECU won 1-0.
