RALEIGH, N.C. – Behind three second half goals the NC State men’s soccer team defeating visiting UNC Greensboro in an exhibition game Tuesday night at the Dail Soccer Stadium. After trailing at the half 1-0, the Pack came out hot in the second half, scoring twice in just over a five minute span.
UNCG would strike first on the scoreboard at the 27:18 mark. After the ball was cleared out of the NC State penalty box, junior Matt Strine control the clearance and fired a shot into the Pack’s net in the 28th minute.
The Pack’s best scoring chance of the first half came with about 15 minutes left to play. Junior Chrystel Bakong took control of the ball on the right sideline and made his way into the middle of the field. Bakong slipped a pass into the penalty box to senior Ronnie Bouemboue who quickly turned and found the back of the net. But the goal was called off, as Bouemboue was offside when he received the pass.
The second half was a different story, as the Pack quickly tied the game and also scored the game winner just over five minutes into the second 45 minutes of play.
After UNCG was called for a foul, Bouemboue took the free kick and tucked it into the left side of the net from about 20 yards out at the 47:13 mark. NC State would then gain the lead in the 51st minute after another UNCG foul. Senior Alan Sanchez crossed the ball into the penalty box, and classmate Federico Nachmann got a foot to it to give the Pack the lead.
NC State would add an insurance goal in the 70th minute, as Bouemboue netted his second tally of the game off of another Sanchez assist.
Senior Christopher Widman got the start in goal and made two saves in 70 minutes of action, while sophomore Will Mackvick made one save in his 20 minutes.
The Pack will begin its regular season next Tuesday, as NC State will host Winthrop at 7:00 p.m. at the Dail Soccer Field.
