“Alex and Allison are both great examples of the type of leader we need on our team,” said Stubbs. “Both are fiercely competitive and vocal, they each give 100 percent and always put the needs of the program ahead of their own. I am confident they will serve as solid leaders during the upcoming season.”
Smith, a native of Placentia, Calif., has served as the team’s No. 1 setter for the past two seasons. She stands seventh in school history for career set assists with 1,847 following two campaigns. A year ago she played in 124 sets – most on the roster – and was third on the team in digs with 260. She also added 135 kills. Off the court she has been named to the ACC Honor Roll twice.
Hailing from Cape Coral, Fla., Davis served as the starting setter as a freshman in 2006 but has been plagued by injuries throughout the past two years. She has posted 198 assists, 50 digs and 21 kills over the last two seasons besides competing in just 29 matches. As a freshman she was named to the All-ACC Academic Volleyball Team while playing in all 31 matches and leading the roster with 905 assists.
NC State will kickoff its 2009 campaign officially with the NC State Hilton RTP Classic, Aug. 28-29 at Reynolds Coliseum.
