Riggins Named Northwoods League All-Star

RALEIGH, N.C. - Wolfpack first baseman Harold Riggins has already had a summer to remember as a member of the Madison Mallards in the Northwoods League. Now he can add an All-Star selection to his resume as the collegiate summer league announced the rosters for their 2009 All-Star Game that will take place on July 21 in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada.
Riggins is currently hitting .340 (49-for-144) with 11 doubles, a triple, eight home runs, and 40 RBIs in 38 games for the Mallards.
Riggins’ 40 RBIs and .597 slugging percentage lead the league, while he is also second in home runs (8), third in batting average (.340), fourth in total hits (49) and sixth in doubles (11).
In 32 games for the Wolfpack, Riggins hit .284 (23-for-81) with four doubles, two home runs, and 16 RBIs.
Sasser All-Star Update
NC State pitcher Grant Sasser made a brief appearance for the North team in the Valley Baseball League’s All-Star Game on July 12 in Woodstock, Virginia.
Sasser allowed one unearned run in 1/3 of an inning. He did not allow a hit or a walk and struck out one in the 1-0 loss.
Sasser and his Haymarket Senators return to action on July 14 at Front Royal.
