RALEIGH, N.C. Carrie Leger, Director of Academic Support Program for Student Athletes at NC State, will be inducted into the Towson University Athletic Hall of Fame on Friday, Oct. 16.
A 1996 graduate of Towson University, Leger spent three years competing for the Tigers gymnastics program, scoring 1,187.795 points. A three-time All-ECAC selection, Leger helped lead the Tigers to conference titles in 1993 and 1995, as well as three consecutive NCAA regional appearances.
As a freshman she steered the Tigers to a 16-6 overall record and a seventh straight conference crown. She took second in the all-around, fourth on the bars and fifth on the vault at the conference meet en route to All-ECAC honors, before taking eighth overall at the NCAA Southeast regional with a 38.575 score. She became just the second gymnast in school history to qualify for the NCAA National Championship Meet.
The next year she was again named all-conference, helping the Tigers upset Ohio State with a first-place 38.725 score in the all around.
In 1995 Leger was a team captain and helped the squad post a 19-2 record, again grabbing all-conference hardware. She helped Towson capture its eighth conference title in nine years, while contributing to new school records in total team score, and team scores on bars and floor.
Her competitive career at Towson ended with Leger owning the fifth-highest vault score (9.80), seventh-best bars score (9.75) and the seventh-best floor score (9.725) in school history. She also recorded the fourth-highest all-around score (38.725) in program history.
Leger graduated from Towson with a B.A. in psychology in 1996. She served as the Director of Academic Progress and Life Skills Development at Elon from 1997 to 2001 while earning her master’s degree in business administration. Her first stint at NC State began in 2001 as a member of the Office of Academic Support Program for Student Athletes (ASPSA). In 2007 she was tabbed as the Associate Director for Membership Services for the NCAA before returning to NC State to accept her current role in last August.
