DURHAM, N.C. Rising sophomore Mark McMillen of the NC State men’s golf team shot a five-under (67) in Sunday’s final round, and claimed the 2009 N.C. Amateur championship held at the Old Chatham Golf Club in Durham, N.C.
McMillen finished the tournament at 10-under par, and won by a healthy three strokes. He came into the fourth and final round four strokes out of first place, but in Sunday action he used six birdies and only had one hole over par. He finished the tournament with a birdie on No. 18.
“I knew I was close to playing well coming into this tournament,” said McMillen. “My short game really came around this week which made the difference.”
