Doughtie Selected All-ACC Again

GREENSBORO, N.C. NC State senior Lauren Doughtie has been named to the 12-member 2009 All-ACC Women’s Golf team on Monday, as voted on by the league’s nine head coaches.
The second straight selection for the Suffolk, Va., native, makes Doughtie the first player in program history to gain recognition on the all-conference team twice.
NC State’s all-time stroke average leader remains just the fourth Wolfpacker to earn All-ACC plaudits. Doughtie and current NC State assistant coach Ashlee Dean (2005) are the only players to earn all-league honors since the program was reinstated for the 2000-01 season.
Doughtie has compiled a team-leading 74.3 stroke average in her final campaign with the Wolfpack. She currently ranks 55th and 72nd nationally by Golfweek and Golfstat respectively.
She picked up her first collegiate win in the fall at the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship in Knoxville, Tenn., with a school-record seven-under (209) performance. Trailing by a shot heading to the final hole, Doughtie birdied the home hole, but her playing partner, who had the slim one-shot advantage, bogeyed to open the door for her to gain medalist honors.
Doughtie has four top-7 finishes in 2008-09, including a tied for fifth performance at the ACC Championship two weeks ago.
NC State is the 13th seed in the upcoming NCAA Central Regional that takes place May 7-9 at the Scarlet Course in Columbus, Ohio, hosted by Ohio State University.
The Wolfpack is ranked No. 30 in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin performance index, while Golfstat has the Pack No. 35.
