Campbell was finally able to solve Gillheeney in the top of the fifth. Kevin Nelson led off the inning with a bunt single down the first base line and Chris Bangi followed with a walk. The Pack appeared to be out of the inning by way of a double play when Hamme grounded to shortstop Dallas Poulk, but Hamme beat the relay throw to first to bring in Nelson to give Campbell a 6-2 lead and chase Gillheeney from the game. Kyle Rutter came on in relief and prevented further damage by striking out Gana to end the inning.
