ATLANTA, Ga. - The NC State men's and women's track and field teams are heading to the Georgia Tech Invite this weekend in the final weekend before the NCAA Outdoor Regionals. The team will also send some athletes to the Carolina Classic and NC A&T over the weekend.
This weekend's meets are a final chance for NC State to add more athletes to its already strong list heading to the NCAA Outdoor Regional Championships.
On the men's side, five athletes have already hit regional marks. Jason Jones has hit six qualifying marks in the shot put. Bobby Moldovan (5,000m) and Lamont Savage (long jump) had two NCAA qualifying marks each.
A'Tolani Akinkuotu (100m) and Gregory Dame (1,500m) each have one qualifying mark.
On the women's side, six athletes have qualified for regionals. Lawanda Henry has six qualifying marks in the shot put and two in the hammer throw, including school records in both events.
Angelina Blackmon has a school record in the 800m, and four total qualifying marks in the event. She has also hit two regional marks in the 1,500m. Brittany McCain has three qualifying marks in the discus.
Kara McKenna has two regional marks, one each in the 5,000m and the steeplechase.
During the regional championships, competitors do not compete in the multi-events for the 10,000m, hoping to qualifying on their time or mark alone, much like the indoor season.
Brittany Tinsley has two regional marks in the 5,000m and a provisional mark in the 10,000m.
Another athlete in that situation is Mattie Bethea, who is qualified in the high jump but is a provisional qualifier in the heptathlon.
