CORAL GABLES, Fla. - The NC State women's tennis team fell to No. 5 Miami on Friday, April 3, in Coral Gables, Fla. With the loss, the Pack is now 4-14 (1-7 ACC) and the Hurricanes improve to 19-3 (8-1 ACC).
The 15th-ranked doubles team of Michaela Kissell and Laura Vallverdu beat the 41st ranked pair of junior Berkeley Brock and sophomore Lenka Hojckova, 8-1, at No. 1. The 47th nationally ranked pair of Julia Cohen and Bianca Eichkorn defeated junior Daria Petrovic and freshman Diana Mortlock, 8-1, at No. 2. Sophomore Jackie Ussery and freshman Pender Sessoms lost to Gabriela Mejia and Claudia Wasilewski, 8-1, at No. 3.
The 4th-ranked singles player, Cohen defeated 104th-ranked Hojckova, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 2, and No. 22 Vallverdu beat No. 13 Berkeley Brock, 6-2, 6-2, at the second singles spot.
No. 51 Michaela Kissell defeated Petrovic, 6-0, 2-6, 1-0(10-4), at No. 3, and No. 27 Eichkorn took down Mortlock, 6-2, 6-0, at the fourth singles spot.
Sessoms lost to Mejia, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 5, and Ussery fell to Wasilewski, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 6.
The Pack will face Florida State next in Tallahassee, Fla. on Sunday, April 5.
