Hill Named SGA National Amateur of the Month

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. North Carolina State sophomore Matt Hill has been selected as the Southern Golf Association’s National Amateur of the Month with a March showing that included two individual tournament titles plus a top 5 finish.
Hill, from Bright’s Grove, Ontario, won the General Hackler Collegiate at the TPC of Myrtle Beach (SC) by three strokes with a 3-under-par 213 total. His medalist play helped N.C. State tie for the team title.
A week later, Hill birdied three of his final five holes to pull away from an impressive field in the Schenkel EZ-Go Invitational for another 3-shot victory. Ranked as the country’s No. 8 amateur by the Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings, Hill was the only player in the field to shoot under par for all three rounds at Forest Heights CC in Statesboro, Ga..
Hill capped off his remarkable month with a top 5 finish in the Hootie @ Bull’s Bay tournament at Awendaw, S.C.
The 6-year-old SGA award is determined each month by a blue-ribbon national selection panel of golf officials, coaches and journalists. The 107-year-old Southern Golf Association promotes amateur golf in a variety of ways, including the staging of the prestigious Southern Amateur Championship, the 103rd edition scheduled in July at Colonial CC in Memphis.
