Campana No-Hits Boston College

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. Lindsay Campana dazzled in the circle, tossing her first career no-hitter as NC State topped Boston College, 3-0, in the first of two games on Saturday, April 25 at Shea Field. The win snaps an eight-game losing streak and pushes State to 21-24 (4-13 ACC), while the Eagles dip to 17-27 (3-11 ACC).
Campana used a variety of pitches to keep BC off kilter all afternoon. She struck out 12 and walked three as the Eagles had just one base runner reach second base.
“Lindsay’s effort today is something that she is capable to doing each and every time we give her the ball,” said head coach Lisa Navas. “She did a great job of mixing her pitches and trusting her stuff, which is so important for a pitcher. I couldn’t be more proud of what she did out there today.”
The no-no stands as the 12th in State’s six-year history. Mendy McKenzie tossed the last no-hitter, a perfect game against Winthrop on March 26, 2008.
Lauren Peters led the Wolfpack offense with three hits and a stolen base, while Kristine Bechtholdt added two knocks of her own. Bridget Desbois and Toni Ann Williford both contributed RBIs.
The Wolfpack got an immediate 2-0 lead in the top of the first on four hits, an error and a damaging walk. Alyssa Ishibashi singled up the middle and took second as Peters dropped a base hit just behind third. An Alyssa Allbritten line out to first resulted in Peters getting doubled up, but a Desbois single into right-center pushed Ishibashi across the plate.
A Bechtholdt infield single and a free pass to Claudia Cooper loaded the bases and kept the inning alive for Williford, who sent a grounder to Brittany Wilkins at third. Wilkins wasn’t able to field the ball properly however, allowing Desbois to scamper home.
The Pack moved its lead to 3-0 on a Williford double to left in the top of the third. Bechtholdt singled to right and moved to second on a wild pitch, later scoring on Williford’s knock.
State had a chance to add to its lead in the top of the sixth as both Mackenzie Mangum and Peters reached on singles, but both were left stranded.
Allison Gage (6-11) took the loss for the Eagles.
NC State and Boston College will begin the second game of today’s twin bill shortly.
