The NC State Dance Team is entering its 16th year as an active and visible supporter of University Athletics at NC State University. The group of 25-30 women performs at all home Football Games, Men's and Women's Basketball Games, Gymnastics Meets, and select Baseball games. The group can also be seen at alumni events, pep rallies, and parades. The NC State Dance Team is also very active throughout the community, making appearances at many local events such as company grand openings, county fairs, and corporate functions. The dance team is very passionate about charity and volunteering and actively participates in several charity events throughout each season. Some charity events and contributions include Operation: Coming Home, the Juvenile Diabetes Walk, Relay for Life, and Vision Dance Convention.
In addition to performing at University and community events, the NC State Dance Team also competes on the national level at the NCA/NDA Collegiate Cheer and Dance Championship and has consistently placed top ten in the nation each year since the dance team program’s origination in 1994. The National Competition is a big part of the Dance Team season and the majority of the year is dedicated to preparation and fundraising for this event. As a member of the National Dance Alliance, the dance team also attends and competes each summer at the NDA Collegiate Camp and consistantly places within the top 3 and receives a bid to the National Championship.
Each summer, the NC State Dance Team hosts dance camps for middle and high school dancers in conjuction with Edge Cheer and Dance, Inc. For more information about these camps, please visit www.edgecheerdance.com.
The NC State Dance Team is not considered a Varsity sport and functions as a Club Sport with the Campus Recreation Department. The portion of the dance team's budget coming from the University does not cover all of the costs that are necessary for the Dance Team season, therefore the team continuously accepts donations and fundraising opportunities to help offset these costs.
