Henry, McCain Hit NCAA Regional Marks
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Throwers Lawanda Henry and Brittany McCain each hit NCAA Regional qualifying marks at the Joe Hilton Carolina Invitational on Saturday. Henry won the shot put with a regional mark and McCain won the discus with a qualifying mark of her own. Henry also won the hammer throw.
Henry holds the NC State indoor and outdoor records in the shot put, and the Wolfpack record in the hammer throw. Her qualifying mark in the shot put was the third in three attempts this season that she hit the regional qualifying standard.
McCain's discus throw of 160' is the second-longest mark in school history, just three feet off of the record. It was the second time this season that she eclipsed the regional qualifying mark.
Angelina Blackmon was fifth in the 400m with a 56.84.
In other top-5 finishes, Alesha Patterson and Mattie Bethea both tied for fifth in the high jump by clearing 5'05.00". Kayla Lawson also cleared that mark.
