W. Tennis Hosts Final Home Matches, Honors Barringer

RALEIGH, N.C. The NC State women’s tennis team will host its final two home matches of the season this weekend. The Pack will face No. 12 Clemson on Saturday, March 28 at 12 p.m. and No. 6 Georgia Tech on Sunday, March 29 at 12 p.m. The match against the Yellow Jackets will also serve as Senior Day to honor senior Neils Barringer. Live stats will be available on GoPack.com, and if inclement weather occurs, the match will be moved indoors.
The Pack is currently 4-11 (1-4 ACC) after falling to No. 7 Duke on Wednesday. Junior Berkeley Brock defeated the 23rd nationally ranked Duke player, Ellah Nze, in a third-set tie-break in the 6-1 loss. Brock and sophomore Lenka Hojckova are currently ranked No. 45, and Hojckova is also ranked 99th in singles play.
Barringer, a senior from Durham, N.C. currently has 37 spring singles wins, tied for 11th in program history. In her freshman season with the Pack, Barringer went 14-6 in singles play, collecting the second most singles wins on the team that season. As a sophomore, she helped the Pack to an NCAA appearance, and won her singles bout in the Pack’s loss to No. 31 Auburn. Her junior season has multiple highlights, including helping NC State clinch a first-round ACC tournament victory over No. 38 Wake Forest. So far this season, Barringer has played at No. 3 and No. 4 singles, and in doubles, she holds a 7-6 record. At the Landfall Invitational in Wilmington, N.C. this fall, Barringer and freshman Diana Mortlock won their singles flight.
Clemson is 12-5 (4-1 ACC) this season, and has the top-ranked player in the nation, Ani Mijacika, on its roster. Josipa Bek is No. 10, Estefania Belda is 95th nationally, Keri Wong is No. 102, and Ina Hadziselimovic is No. 114, In doubles rankings, Mijacika and Wong are No. 8, and Bek and Hadziselimovic are No. 36.Mijacika is also ranked with Federica van Adrichem at No. 74.
This season, Georgia Tech is 11-5 (4-1 ACC), and will face Wake Forest on the 28th before heading to Raleigh. Irina Falconi is 7th nationally in singles, and Amanda McDowell is 18th in the rankings. Noelle Hickey is No. 43 and Christy Striplin is No. 46. In doublers action, McDowell and Falconi are ranked No. 5, and Striplin and Hickey are No. 20.
