Blair, Hill in Top-10 at Schenkel E-Z-Go

STATESBORO, N.C. After one round of action at the 2009 Schenkel E-Z-Go Invitational in Statesboro, Ga., two Wolfpack golfers find themselves in the top-10 while NC State is tied for eighth place. This year’s Schenkel E-Z-Go Invitational features 10 ranked teams according to GolfStat.com, with six in the top-25, including No. 14 NC State.
Senior Darren Blair had the Pack’s top round of the day, and is just one stroke off the lead. Blair shot a two-under (70) on the day, and is in fifth place behind four golfers that shot a three-under. Blair had four birdies on the day, and an eagle on the par-five No. 9. He started his day strong with a two-under on the font-nine.
Sophomore Matt Hill also had a strong first round, as he is in eight place just two strokes off the lead. Hill had a one-under (71) for the first round, with three birdies.
The Wolfpack currently sits in a tie for eighth place overall, as the Pack shot a seven-over (295) on the first day.
Tennessee holds the team lead after the first round, as the Vols are currently at one-under (287).
A pair of Pack golfers, senior Andrew Byrd and sophomore Brandon Detweiler, each posted a five-over (77). Detweiler started his round strong, with two birdies and shooting even-par on the front-nine.
Brad Revell is the final golfer on the day, as he posted an eight-over (80) in the first round.
Round two will be played on Saturday, with the final round on Sunday.
