Softball Set for ACC Opener at Virginia Tech

RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State will begin its ACC portion of the schedule this weekend against two-time reigning ACC Champion Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va. The Pack will square off with the Hokies for two games (12 p.m., 2 p.m. ) on Saturday, March 14, before wrapping up the series on Sunday, March 15 at 1 p.m. Fans are encouraged to follow the action via live stats on GoPack.com.
State (10-8) was riding a three-game winning streak until Winthrop sent them home with a 4-1 road loss yesterday in Rock Hill, S.C. Despite the setback, the Pack has won eight of its last 10 games including a doubleheader sweep of Michigan State at home this past Tuesday.
Hannah Ojeda remains State’s top offensive threat, posting a .341 batting clip with seven runs scored and three RBIs in a solid start to her career in the red and white. Alyssa Ishibashi continues to get on base, batting .319 total with five runs scored and four RBIs. Kristine Bechtholdt, Bridget Desbois and Allison Presnell each boast three home runs, while Alyssa Allbritten has two.
The Wolfpack pitching staff has been solid by and large, combining for a 1.69 ERA. Lindsay Campana (5-3, 1 save) posts a 1.13 ERA on her own with six complete games under her belt and 62 strikeouts. McKenzie (3-3, 1 save) carries a 2.22 ERA with 42 K’s. Morgan Peeler (1-2, 2.71 ERA) and Stephanie Call (1-0, 2.00 ERA) have also shown tremendous promise when handed the ball in the circle.

Virginia Tech stands at 8-13, having won two of its last three contests. Jenna Rhodes leads the squad at the plate with a .444 batting average and 32 hits. Jessica Everhart has knocked in 13 RBIs, while Charisse Mariconda has supplied 11.
Kenzie Roark and Abbie Rexrode have handled all of the pitching duties for VT this year, with Roark (6-9, 3.19 ERA) seeing the majority of the action. Rexrode carries a 2-4 slate with a 3.90 ERA. The duo has combined for 66 earned runs and 89 strikeouts.
The All-Time Series
NC State is 7-8 all-time against Virginia Tech with the Hokies having won the last five meetings between the two programs, including last year’s ACC Championship game. The Pack last beat the Hokies, 2-1, on March 31, 2007.

State won its first ever ACC game against arch rival North Carolina in Chapel Hill (5-2) in 2004, and has won three straight over Boston College (6-5, 2006), Florida State (6-3, 2007) and Boston College (8-0, 2008). Its lone loss came at the hands of Florida State (2-5) in 2005.
