RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State gymnastics will host its final regular season meet this Friday, March 13 at 7pm against George Washington in Reynolds Coliseum. The meet will mark the final regular-season home meet for a trio of seniors - Elyse Adams, Dru Davis and Ashley Shepard.
This will mark the second time that NC State will face George Washington this season, with NC State defeating the Colonials 194.350-to-192.575 at the Sweetheart Invitational quad-meet.
Adams, from Westlake, Ohio, is a four-time member of the EAGL All-Academic team. She finished second as a freshman on bars at the 2006 EAGL Championships and one two event titles in her first year. She returned to action this season after battling injuries much of the previous two campaigns, and has scored a 9.7 or higher on bars in four meets.
Davis, out of Pennsville, N.J., has competed on all four events in her career, seeing her most action as a freshman in 2006. That year she competed on floor in eight meets, beam in 10 meets, on vault three times and on bars twice. In 2009, Davis has competed on vault in eight of the 10 meets, with a career-high 9.8 on the event at Pittsburgh.
Shepard, from Rock Hill, S.C., is one of the top scholar-athletes in the league, as she earned her fourth straight EAGL All-Academic team selection last week. She also ranks eighth in EAGL on floor, and could earn first-team honors on the event when the awards are announced next week. Shepard was first-team on floor in 2007 and second-team in 2006.
In addition to the senior leadership, junior Taylor Seaman is putting together perhaps the finest 2009 season of any gymnast in EAGL. She currently is the only EAGL gymnast ranked in the top-8 on all five events - floor (1st), all-around (2nd), bars (2nd), vault (4th) and beam (7th). In fact, no other gymnast event ranks in the top-3 in four events in the league except for Seaman's four.
Freshman standout Brooke Barr, who has earned an NC State record five of the 10 EAGL Rookie of the Week awards this season, is ranked first in the conference on vault and is seventh on beam.
Sophomore Brittney Hardiman, who was the 2008 EAGL Rookie of the Year, is fifth in the conference in the all-around and eight on vault.
NC State will also host the East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) Championships on March 21 at 3 pm and the NCAA Southeast Regionals on April 4 at 6 pm. Both events will be hosted in Historic Reynolds Coliseum.
