RALEIGH, N.C. - A pair of NC State gymnasts earned recognition from the East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) after strong performances in a pair of meets last week. Junior Taylor Seaman was named EAGL Gymnast of the Week and Barr was honored for the second time this season as EAGL Rookie of the Week.
NC State posted it's top two scores of the season in meets against No. 1 Georgia (193.150), the four-time defending national champions, and Pittsburgh (194.450).
Seaman earned her first EAGL Gymnast of the Week award this season and second in her career. Seaman won floor against Georgia (9.875) and Pittsburgh (9.925) and tied for first on vault against Pittsburgh (9.875). She also finished second and scored a 39.275 in the all-around against Georgia, just .075 points behind Courtney Kupets of Georgia, a former Olympian and one of the top collegiate gymnasts.
Seaman, from Greensburg, Pa., also finished third on beam and fourth on bars against Georgia, and second on bars against Pittsburgh while averaging over a 39.000 in the all-around for both meets.
Barr, from Harrisburg, Pa., is continuing to impress in her freshman season, as she earned her second EAGL Rookie of the Week award in just the fourth week of the season. She set season and career-highs in vault and floor in the meets against No. 1 Georgia and Pittsburgh. She finished third in the vault with a 9.850 against Georgia. She topped that with a 9.875 to tie for first on vault against Pittsburgh. Barr was also second behind Seaman at Pitt on floor, scoring a 9.875.
NC State returns to the gym this Saturday at 6pm for the annual Governor's Cup. The Wolfpack had a season-high 3,614 fans attend its meet against No. 1 Georgia, so the gymnastics team would like to beat that attendance mark at its big five-team meet this weekend.
