Gymnastics Wins Quad Meet at TWU

DENTON, Texas - NC State junior gymnast Taylor Seaman won the all-around, bars and floor, finished second on vault, and third on beam as the Wolfpack gymnastics team won a quad meet with a score of 193.850. The score was the Pack's third-best road score on the season, and good enough to defeat Texas Woman's University (193.600), Centenary College (190.350) and Univ. Wisconsin-Whitewater (188.525).
The Wolfpack scored season-highs on floor (49.075) and beam (48.550) in winning the meet, and took first as a team on vault and floor.
Seaman, one of the top candidates for EAGL Gymnast of the Year, was strong once again, winning three events and finishing in the top-3 in all four individual events and the all-around. She posted a 39.275, tied for her second-best all-around score on the season, to lead the meet. Her 9.875 on floor and 9.750 on bars tied for first in the meet. She was second on the vault with a 9.850, and third on beam with a 9.800.
Freshman Brooke Barr, a four-time winner of the EAGL Rookie of the Week in 2009, was stellar on vault, posting her third 9.9 in the last four meets to win the event for the third time this season. She also scored a 9.850 on floor - good for third at the meet - her second-best score of the season.
Senior Ashley Shepard continues to post impressive scores on her speciality event - the floor - as she scored a 9.850 for the second-straight meet. Shepard's score was good for third at the meet.
Freshman Jess Panza scored a career-high on beam with a 9.850, tied for first on the event at the meet. She also scored a 9.775 on vault, good for fifth at the meet. Panza has competed on vault in five meets this season, and has hit at least a 9.775 in each of the five.
Yet another freshman, Becca Teich, tied for third on the vault by tying her career-high with a 9.8 for the third time this season.
Sophomore Brittany Vontz tied for first on bars with a 9.750, her fourth top-3 finish on the event in 2009.
Freshman Anna Kronenfeld tied her career-high with a 9.750 on beam, finishing tied for fourth.
NC State will travel to No. 6 LSU next weekend, before returning home for its final regular season meet on March 13 against George Washington.
The Wolfpack gymnastics team will also host the EAGL Championships (March 21) and the NCAA Southeast Regional Championships (April 4) at Historic Reynolds Coliseum on the NC State campus.
