Trio Leads Gymnastics at Master's Classic

LINCOLN, Neb. - Freshmen Jess Panza and Brooke Barr, and senior Ashley Shepard, helped lead NC State to a 194.550 at the Master's Classic in Lincoln, Neb. Shepard scored a 9.850 to take fourth on floor, and Panza led the team with a 9.800 on beam. Barr was the top vaulter with a 9.900.
Another freshman, Becca Teich, tied a career-high with a 9.800.
The Pack started on bars to kick off the meet, and posted a 48.175. Senior Elyse Adams led the team with a 9.700, the fourth straight meet that the senior posted a 9.7 or higher on the event. A pair of sophomores, Brittany Vontz and Brittney Hardiman, turned in 9.675s for second on the team.
NC State then posted a season-high on beam, scoring a 48.400. Freshman Jess Panza scored a 9.800 to lead the team and tie her career-high. Junior Taylor Seaman scored a 9.750, while Hardiman and freshman Brooke Barr chipped in 9.650s.
Floor provided an even better performance out of the squad, as the Wolfpack scored a 48.750. Senior Ashley Shepard posted a season-high 9.850 to lead the team and take fourth at the meet. Barr was close behind with an 9.825, good for seventh at the meet. Vontz and Hardiman both tossed in 9.750s.
The team finished in style, exploding for a 49.225 on vault, tied for the fourth-best mark in school history. That team score was also the third of the season on vault of 49.225 and higher. Barr was strong yet again, scoring a 9.9 to tie a season-high and good for fifth at the meet. Hardiman tied her career-high for the second-time this season with a 9.875. Panza notched a career-high 9.850 and Seaman and Teich hit 9.8s to finish out the lineup. Teich's 9.8 tied a career-high.
Brittney Hardiman led the team in the all-around and was fourth, posting a 38.950.
NC State will hit the road for the next two weekends as well, heading to Texas Woman's University and LSU in the coming weeks.
