RALEIGH, N.C. - The NC State gymnastics team looks to continue its hot streak into this week's Sweetheart Invite on Friday, Feb. 13 at 7 pm. The Wolfpack has averaged over a 194 team score over the past three meets after averaging less than a 192 for the first three of the 2009 season.
NC State will play host to EAGL foes George Washington and North Carolina, in addition to William & Mary at the Sweetheart Invite.
For the second straight week, junior Taylor Seaman and freshman Brooke Barr earned weekly EAGL honors. Seaman was named Gymnast of the Week for the third time in her career and Barr earned Rookie of the Week honors for the third time this season.
Seaman is second in EAGL in average score for the all-around and third in the floor exercise. In six meets this season, Seaman has won nine event titles and finished in the top-3 a total of 15 times. The rest of the Wolfpack team has notched 21 top-3 finishes on the year. She has won four floor titles in the six meets, and finished second last weekend despite scoring an impressive 9.9 at the Governor's Cup.
Barr has made a strong impact as a freshman, posting seven top-3 finishes, second on the team. She also has had the second-highest score on the team in both the vault and floor, and the third best on beam. In terms of average, Barr ranks first on beam and third on both vault and floor.
Another freshman, Jess Panza, leads the team and ranks seventh in EAGL on vault after scoring 9.8s in both of her meets this season.
Sophomore Brittney Hardiman ranks first on bars and second on beam and the all-around for the Wolfpack, and is third on the team with five top-3 finishes. Hardiman has finished in the top-3 on the all-around in four of the six meets, including a first place finish at Pittsburgh.
