CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – NC State volleyball fell to North Carolina in three sets on Tuesday, Nov. 3 at the Dean Smith Center. The loss moves the Wolfpack to 7-21 (0-13 ACC), while the Tar Heels move 12-12 (8-5 ACC).
Lisa Kretchman led the Wolfpack scoring with seven kills, while Sarah Griggs landed two service aces. Alex Smith lifted all of the team’s 19 set assists, while Kelly Wood led the roster in digs with 13.
NC State grabbed the first two points of the evening but North Carolina quickly took over the opening set, building a 10-4 lead and forcing the first of two Wolfpack timeouts. Passing inefficiency and a lethargic offense caused problems, with the Pack landing just four kills as the Tar Heels cruised to a 25-10 decision.
The Pack looked like a completely different team in the early going of the second set, leading briefly at 10-11 before UNC exploded for 10-straight scores and 15 of 17 total in winning 25-13. Kretchman landed three of the Pack’s eight kills, but 12 attack errors buried the team’s scoring opportunities as the Tar Heels hit .321 with just one attack error.
The Wolfpack got its highest point total in a 25-18 loss in the third and final stanza. UNC came out on fire again, grabbing 10 of the first 15 scores and eventually leading by as many as 10 before the Pack began to chip away as play went on.
NC State will host both Virginia Tech and Virginia this weekend.
