Volleyball Falls at Wake Forest

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The NC State volleyball team fell in three sets at Wake Forest on Saturday, Nov. 21. The loss sends the Wolfpack to 7-27 (0-19 ACC) for the season, as the Demon Deacons improve to 11-19 (9-10 ACC).
Lisa Kretchman’s 11 kills led the Pack offense, while Alex Smith recorded 26 set assists. Kelly Wood had a team-best 14 digs, while Smith, Keri DeMar and Margaret Salata all landed service aces.
NC State had match-bests in both kills (14) and hitting percentage (.205) in the opening frame, but fell 25-22. In a topsy-turvy affair that saw 10 tied scores and three lead changes, Smith knotted things a final time at 21-all with an ace before WFU scored four of the next five points to win.
The Pack led early on but couldn’t withstand several mini-scoring runs from the Demon Deacons in a 25-15 second set loss. Wood roped in six digs on defense.
Wake Forest out-hit the Pack .314 to .147 and only allowed one tied score in sealing the deal with a 25-16 win in the third and final stanza.
NC State will end its season at Reynolds Coliseum against North Carolina this coming Wednesday, Nov. 25 at 1 p.m. The match will also serve as Senior Day for Allison Davis, DeMar, Kretchman and Arlee Tamietti.
