Volleyball Embarks on Final Road Trip

RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State volleyball team will hit the road for the last time this season over the weekend, playing conference matches at Duke and Wake Forest. The Wolfpack will take on the Blue Devils on Friday, Nov. 20 at 7 p.m., later facing the Demon Deacons on Saturday, Nov. 21 at 6 p.m.
NC State owns a 7-25 (0-17 ACC) record. Kelly Wood leads the team in kills with 220, and Alex Smith has 735 assists. Sarah Griggs has a team-best 21 service aces, while Lindsay Benac has scooped up 429 digs. Lisa Kretchman’s 75 total blocks is also a team-high.
Smith stands fifth all-time in school history for career set assists with 2,582. She needs just 70 more to take control of fourth-place in the Wolfpack record books.
Duke (24-5, 14-3 ACC) currently holds second-place in the ACC. The Blue Devils are slotted just outside the top-25 in the latest AVCA Division I Coaches Poll, having collected 25 votes. With wins in eight of its last nine matches, including three-straight, Duke will play its final three contests at home before awaiting word from the NCAA selection committee about potentially playing in the postseason.
Wake Forest (9-19, 7-10 ACC) is stuck in a four-match losing skid, having dropped seven of its last nine affairs. Setter Kelsey Jones has recorded a double-double in each of the Demon Deacon’s last four matches, including 42 assists and 11 digs against Virginia Tech. WFU will host North Carolina on Friday prior to hosting the Pack.
NC State will host North Carolina in its season finale on Wednesday, Nov. 25 at Reynolds Coliseum. Play is slated to begin at 1 p.m. The match will serve as Senior Night for Kretchman, Allison Davis, Keri DeMar and Arlee Tamietti.
