CHESTNUT HILL, MASS. – The NC State volleyball team suffered a three-set loss at Boston College on Friday, Nov. 13. The loss sends the Wolfpack to 7-24 (0-16 ACC) for the year, while the Eagles improve to 12-15 (2-14 ACC).
Kelly Wood led the Pack’s scoring with 12 kills, while Alex Smith set 27 assists and Lindsay Benac had eight digs. Margaret Salata and Keri DeMar both had three total blocks, while DeMar also sank two service aces.
The opening frame, a 25-23 BC decision, was a back-and-forth brawl, complete with 10 tied scores. The Eagles broke a 15-all tie to stake a small lead, which Smith tied with a kill at 22-22. Back-to-back points then left Boston College serving for set point, but a DeMar kill kept the Pack alive until Melanie Cimino gave the Eagles the last score it needed.
NC State’s best statistical effort came in a 25-18 second set loss. Despite 13 kills and a match-high .237 hitting percentage however, the Wolfpack’s passing and serving both broke down, allowing the Eagles to go on a roll while hitting .457 with 19 kills and just three attack errors.
The Pack could only muster nine kills opposed to BC’s 19 in falling 25-23 in the third and final stanza. A late NC State comeback made things interesting however, as the Eagles began serving for match point at 24-18 before withstanding a five-point Pack rally that fell just short.
NC State will take on Maryland this Sunday, Nov. 15 in College Park, Md., at 1 p.m.
