UNC Brings Next Test for Women's Soccer Team

RALEIGH, N.C. – NC State will take on its third nationally ranked club in the last two weeks on Friday against No. 2/3 North Carolina at Fetzer Field beginning at 7 p.m.

The Pack, ranked 10th in this weeks Southeast Region by the NSCAA, will look to bounce back from a 2-1 setback at No 6 Boston College last Sunday. Though the Pack lost its last time out, the club still finds itself tied for fourth in the ACC standings with six points, thanks to a 2-2 ledger in the league.
Sophomore Paige Dugal and freshman Kara Blosser have done the majority of the scoring this season for first-year head coach Steve Springthorpe. In fact, the dynamic duo has scored the last 13 Wolfpack goals spanning eight games. They rank as the third-highest scoring duo in the league.
In addition, Dugal and Blosser are tied for sixth in the ACC with 18 points apiece, and are both tied for fourth with eight goals.
Junior Alyson Santilli has moved into a tie for fifth in the ACC with a team and career-high five assists so far this season.
NC State sophomore keeper Kim Kern has started all 12 matches, allowing 12 goals in over 1064 minutes. Her 1.01 goals against average is eighth in the ACC, while her save percentage ranks ninth at .750. Kern is tied for sixth with three shutouts.
Scouting North Carolina (10-1-1, 3-1 ACC)
North Carolina suffering its first loss in more than a year and its first ACC loss in more than two years last Sunday in a 1-0 loss at Virginia Tech. UNC is ranked No. 2 this week by the NSCAA coaches poll and Soccer Times and No. 3 by Soccer America. The Tar Heels are 10-1-1 overall and 3-1 in the ACC, currently standing in third place in the league behind Virginia Tech (4-0) and Florida State (3-0).
The loss to Virginia Tech marked the second time UNC has been shutout this season in the first 12 games. Auburn also shutout the Tar Heels in a scoreless tie between the two teams on September 20.
Jessica McDonald leads the Tar Heels with five goals and 12 points, while Courtney Jones and Tobin Heath have handed out five assists each.
All-Time Series
North Carolina and NC State will be meeting for the 42nd time this Friday. UNC leads the all-time series with the Wolfpack 38-1-2. UNC has won eight in a row in the series since a 2-1 loss to the Wolfpack on October 10, 2002 at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C.
