RALEIGH, N.C. – NC State volleyball dropped a 3-0 decision to Georgia Tech on Saturday, Oct. 31 at historic Reynolds Coliseum. The Yellow Jackets climb to 16-7 (10-3 ACC) with the win, while the Wolfpack falls to 7-20 (0-12 ACC).
Lisa Kretchman led the Pack offense with seven kills, while Margaret Salata added six. Kelly Wood etched 13 digs, and Alex Smith recorded 21 set assists. Salata also had five total blocks, while Smith and Sarah Griggs each landed service aces.
The opening set was a back-and-forth barnburner, complete with eight tied scores and three lead changes. The Pack led for the majority of the first half of play, but an Isis Gardner attack error broke a 12-all knot and the Yellow Jackets took the lead the rest of the way, winning 25-20.
The Pack’s passing broke down and its entire offensive output suffered in a 25-14 second set loss. Kretchman and Keri DeMar combined for four of five total kills, but 12 attack errors gave Georgia Tech enough points to put NC State in an insurmountable hole.
The third and final set provided the Pack’s best statistical showing of the night, culminating in a .185 hitting clip and 11 total kills. A Bailey Hunter kill broke an 18-18 tie, but the Wolfpack netters kept clawing back. Three-straight scores with Georgia Tech serving for match point at 24-20 put the Pack within one score of tying things up again, but Monique Mead ended the evening at 25-23 with a strike.
NC State will take on North Carolina in Chapel Hill on Tuesday, Nov. 3 at 7 p.m.
