Raleigh, N.C. – In the final home ACC contest of the year, the 13th-ranked NC State men’s soccer team will host Clemson this Friday night at 7:00 p.m. at the Dail Soccer Field.
The Wolfpack is coming off of a 5-0 win over Centenary this past Tuesday. NC State is currently on a two-game winning streak, and have won seven out of the last eight outings. The Pack is 8-1-1 at home on the season, and will be vying for the 12th win of the season, the most for a NC State team since the 1994 squad won 14.
In the second released RPI of the season, the Pack checks in at No. 8. NC State also appears in all four national polls for the eighth straight week. This week, the Pack checks in at No. 11 in Soccer America’s top-25, and No. 13 in the NSCAA Poll, CollegeSoccerNews.com, and Soccer Times.
Senior Christopher Widman is having his best season for the Pack. He has played every minute in the Pack’s net, and posts a GAA of 0.83 and has a career-high seven shutouts. The seven shutouts are tied for fifth-best in a single season in the Pack records books, and are the most for a keeper since Jorge Gonzalez recorded seven in 2003.
The NC State offense has been just as effective this season, as the Pack has outscored the opposition 31-13 on the season. Four different players have already reached double figures in points for the Pack, led by the senior duo of Ronnie Bouemboue (7G, 8A, 22 Pts.) and Alan Sanchez (6G, 8A, 20 Pts.).
Clemson comes in sporting a record of 3-10-1 on the season, including 1-5 in ACC play. The Tigers are coming off of a 6-0 win over Division II North Greenville on Wednesday, and in recent ACC play, Clemson has lost its last two games (to No. 6 Maryland and No. 19 Duke) by just a goal apiece.
NC State has won the last two outings between the schools. Last season, the Pack picked up a huge ACC win on the road, 2-0, and last time the Tigers visited Raleigh NC State won 2-1 in overtime.
