CORAL GABLES, Fla. – NC State dropped a three-set conference bout at Miami on Sunday, Oct. 25. The loss sends the Wolfpack to 7-18 (0-10 ACC) on the year, while the Hurricanes advance to 13-8 (6-5 ACC).
Keri DeMar led the Pack offense with eight kills, while Margaret Salata supplied six of her own along with three total blocks. Kelly Wood dropped three service aces and corralled a team-best 14 digs, while Alex Smith set 20 assists.
“We passed poorly in the first two sets, and played much stronger in the third,” said head coach Charita J. Stubbs. “We will keep fighting. It is going to happen.”
Seven attack errors in the opening frame practically cancelled out the Pack’s nine kills as the Hurricanes grabbed an early lead at 25-18. NC State followed with twice as many kills as attack errors in the second stanza, but Miami’s match-high .387 hitting percentage paved the way for a Canes victory at 25-16.
The Pack’s most complete effort came in a 25-20 defeat in the third and final column. DeMar led the scoring with three spikes, while Wood dropped two of her three aces.
NC State will host Clemson and Georgia Tech this coming weekend at historic Reynolds Coliseum on campus.
