RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State volleyball team dropped a 3-0 ACC match to Duke at Reynolds Coliseum on Saturday, Oct. 17. Keri DeMar and Margaret Salata both landed five kills.
The loss moves the Wolfpack to 7-16 (0-8 ACC) on the year, while the Blue Devils climb to 17-4 (7-2).
Lindsay Benac roped in 13 defensive digs for the Pack, while Isis Gardner and Lisa Kretchman both had four total blocks. Three NC State netters – Salata, Sarah Griggs and Taylor Pritchard – dropped in service aces. Alex Smith hoisted 20 set assists.
The Pack had its best showing of the night in an epic first game that the Blue Devils ultimately collected, 25-22. NC State hit .212 with 12 kills – four from DeMar – and led briefly while knotting the score three times. The Pack trailed by seven late at 23-16, but a late rally cut the Blue Devils lead to 24-22 before a Sophia Dunworth spike ended things.
The Wolfpack offense struggled in the second stanza, while Duke hit a match-best .333 in grabbing a quick 25-10 victory. NC State rebounded for a much cleaner and crisper third stanza, landing seven kills and etching four blocks, but lost 25-18.
NC State will hit the road next weekend, traveling to Florida State and Miami.
