Wake Forest Topples Volleyball

RALEIGH, N.C. – NC State volleyball fell to Wake Forest in three games on Friday, Oct. 16 at Reynolds Coliseum. The loss moves the Wolfpack to 7-15 (0-7 ACC), while the Demon Deacons climb to 7-12 (5-3 ACC).
Keri DeMar and Margaret Salata both dropped in nine kills for the Pack offense, while Isis Gardner added nine. Alex Smith lifted 29 set assists, and Lisa Kretchman had four total blocks. Lindsay Benac (20) and Kelly Wood (18) combined for 38 of the team’s 58 digs, while Salata and Taylor Pritchard each sprinkled in service aces.
The opening set proved to be a real donnybrook in front of a season-high crowd of 743 partisan Wolfpack fans. With the Demon Deacons serving for set point, the Pack rallied off three-straight scores to knot things at 24-all. Both teams continued to up the ante equally to 27-27, before back-to-back points handed Wake Forest a 29-27 decision. In all, the stanza saw four lead changes and eight tied frames.
WFU cruised to a 25-16 victory in the second column, hitting a match-high .429 while the Pack landed just 11 kills – four of which were supplied by Gardner.
The Pack kept things close in the third and final frame, but the Demon Deacons held out long enough to win 25-19. NC State hit a match-best .176 with 12 kills, but a Lauren McIntyre score gave Wake Forest the lead for good at 6-5.
NC State will host Duke tomorrow, Saturday, Oct. 17. Match time is set for 6 p.m.
