Volleyball Set for Weekend Home Action

RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State volleyball team will take on Wake Forest and Duke this weekend in home ACC action at Reynolds Coliseum. The Wolfpack will face the Demon Deacons on Friday, Oct. 16 at 7 p.m., before battling the Blue Devils on Saturday, Oct. 17 at 6 p.m. Admission is free to both matches, and live stats will be available via GoPack.com.
NC State will carry a 7-14 (0-6 ACC) record into its weekend slate. Kelly Wood’s 160 kills is a team-best, as is Alex Smith’s 477 assists. Sarah Griggs has 15 services on the season, while Lisa Kretchman (55) and Jana Angel (54) have combined for 109 total blocks. Lindsay Benac’s 3.83 digs-per-set average is eighth-best in the conference, as is Griggs’ service ace average. Smith and Wood also both have seven double-doubles on the year.
Wake Forest stands at 6-12 (4-3 ACC) with conference wins over Boston College, Maryland, Virginia Tech and Virginia. The Demon Deacons started the season by dropping 10-straight decisions before winning six in a row. Wake Forest has lost its last two matches – both in conference – to Miami and No. 17 Florida State.
Duke is 16-3 (6-1 ACC) having played one of the toughest schedules in the conference, with its three losses coming to Ohio, No. 1 Penn State and No. 19 Florida State. The Blue Devils have won nine of its last 10, and will take on North Carolina in nearby Chapel Hill, N.C., on Friday before making the trek to Raleigh.
