RALEIGH, N.C. – The 13th-ranked NC State men’s soccer team will step out of conference play, as host Georgia Southern this Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m. at the Dail Soccer Field. The Wolfpack (8-2-1) come into the contest riding a four game winning streak, and have jumped up into third place in the ACC standings.
NC State is coming off of a thrilling 1-0 double overtime win at No. 8 Duke this past weekend. Senior Ronnie Bouemboue scored the game’s lone score with just 49 seconds left, and the Pack defense limited Duke to just one shot on goal. For his efforts, Bouemboue was named to the team of the week on CollegeSoccerNews.com and TopDrawerSoccer.com.
The Pack’s defense has been stout over recent games, as NC State has recorded a shutout in three of the last four outings. The Pack’s backline of seniors Korede Aiyegbusi and Romulo Manzano and juniors Lucas Carpenter and Tyler Lassiter have all started all 11 games this season.
In goal, senior Christopher Widman has played every minute in the Pack’s net. He has lowered his GAA average to 0.69 and has already tied his career-high with five shutouts. He sits third in the ACC in GAA, and is tied for first in shutouts.
NC State’s offense has been just as strong, as the Pack ranks second in goals scored (21) this season and first in points (70). NC State has outscored the opposition 21-8 on the year, with nine different players recording a goal, and 15 players having at least one point thus far.
Bouemboue leads the ACC in goals (6) and points (17), while senior Alan Sanchez is second with six assists.
NC State is a perfect 6-0 against non-conference foes this season, and the Pack is 5-0-1 at home overall this year.
In the two national polls released on Monday, the Pack checks in at No. 12 in Soccer America’s poll and No. 13 on CollegeSoccerNews.com’s poll. The rankings are the Pack’s highest of the season, as NC State has now been ranked the last six weeks. NC State reached its highest national ranking since climbing to No. 7 back in 2005.
Georgia Southern comes into the contest with a record of 0-9-1 on the season, after its loss at Gardner-Webb this weekend, 5-2. Danny Hall leads the Eagles with three scores on the year, while in goal three different players have started games on the season.
