Career Performances Highlight UNC Classic

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. Several first place finishes and new personal bests highlighted the NC State women’s track and field team’s stay at the UNC Classic on Saturday, Jan. 24.
Kayla Lawson won the high jump invitational with a career best 5'06.00", while Mattie Bethea and Alesha Patterson took third and eigth respectively. Ashley Neal also collected first in the triple jump on a 37'02.25", a new personal best, while Lawson (38'07.75") took second in the triple jump invitational with another personal best.
Lawanda Henry’s 50'06.25" in the shot put was good for first. Tiana Thorpe’s 43'01.75" in the weight throw put her in third place with a new career best. Henry (59'07.50") and Brittany McCain (55'05.00") took first and second in the weight throw invitational, with McCain’s mark setting a new career high.
Both Gabrielle Daniel (8.04 / 25.78) and Lauren Montgomery (8.17 / 26.33) recorded new top times in the 60-meter and 200-meter dash.
Marika Walker took sixth in the 800-meter run on a 2:22.21, and Brittany View hit a season-high 2:32.02. Amanda Burger (5:23.41) came in 11th in the one mile run while Leah Vaughn (5:28.34) and Krista Moss (5:43.08) posted personal bests.
