RALEIGH, N.C. - Mary Kate Towne and Kristin Player each scored twice to lead UNC Greensboro to a 4-1 victory over Stetson in the first game of the NC State/Residence Inn North Women's Soccer Tournament Friday afternoon from NC State Soccer Stadium.
Player opened the scoring just 1:12 into the match with a lofted shot over the Stetson keeper from 15-yards out.
Towne made it 2-0 in the 22nd minute when she knocked in a deflection off the initial shot taken by Kelly Attayek.
The Hatters got back into the game just before halftime with a goal from Tessa Gavilsky off a feed from Natalie Simon in the 42nd minute.
Towne and Player put the game out of reach with a goal apiece in a five minute span of the second half. Towne one-touched a pass from Attayek, while Player capped the afternoon's scoring birage with a shot from 15-yards out after a nice combo pass from Nicole Danford and Attayek, who picked up her third assist of the game.
