RALEIGH, N.C. Behind two goals from junior Ronnie Bouemboue, the NC State men’s soccer team downed No. 13 Boston College, 2-0, Saturday night at the Pack’s first-ever ACC contest at the NC State Soccer Stadium. The Wolfpack (2-5-1, 1-2 ACC) would score goals in the final five seconds of each half, and also pitch a shutout against the Eagles (3-4-1, 1-2 ACC) for the first shutout of the season.
After 17 minutes of back and forth action in the first half, Boston College almost got on the scoreboard first when Shawn Chin rang a shot off the crossbar.
As the game was heading into the half, the Pack would strike with a quick goal. With under 10 seconds left, junior Alan Sanchez won a throw-in deep in BC territory, and found Bouemboue at the corner of the penalty box. Bouemboue would dribble towards the middle of the field, and launch a right-footed shot into the bottom of the net with just five seconds left in the half.
As the rain started to come down hard in the second half, each squad saw limited scoring opportunities. As the Eagles were pushed forward in the last minute of the game, freshman Watt Williams cleared a ball down the right sideline where Bouemboue pounced on it and netted his second score of the game with just two seconds remaining.
Boston College would the shot count on the day, 14-6, but it was NC State’s Christopher Widman who came up big in goal with eight saves.
The Pack will return to home action this Wednesday, when NC State will host Florida Atlantic at 2:00 p.m. at the NC State Soccer Stadium.
