Two Road Tests This Weekend for Women's Soccer

RALEIGH, N.C. - The NC State women's soccer team faces its toughest weekend test of the season with a pair of road matches at William & Mary on Friday and at Old Dominion on Sunday. The Wolfpack (7-0) is off to its best start to a season since 1991.
Wolfpack senior Lindsay Vera remains among the ACC leaders in a variety of categories. She is tied for first in points (17), points per game (2.43), assists (5) and assists per game (0.71). She is also third in goals scored with six.
Sophomore Kara Baldy, who also ranks fourth in points (15) and third in goals scored with six, has teamed up with Vera to become the ACC's top scoring duo thus far in 2008 with 32 combined points. Junior Meredith Parrilla has also dished out five assists this season to tie for the league lead, while junior Gia Cipollini is one back in a tie for sixth with four helpers.
Freshman Kim Kern heads the ACC's keepers in goals-against-average (0.25), save percentage (.952) and saves per game (5.00). She has compiled a 4-0 record, while sophomore keeper Rachel Barnette is 3-0 with a 1.00 GAA and one shutout.
The Wolfpack will face William & Mary in Williamsburg, Va., at Albert-Daly Field on Friday at 7 p.m. The Tribe enters the match with a 3-3-1 record and is coming off a 1-0 victory over Maryland last Sunday. Junior Kellie Jenkins scored the game's deciding goal for the College.
Claire Zimmeck leads the club in scoring with nine points on four goals and one assist, while Jenkins has found the back of the net twice for four points this season. Meghan Walker has played every minute in goal and owns a 1.11 goals-against-average-with 36 saves and two shutouts.
NC State leads 8-5-4 in the all-time series with the Tribe.

Sunday brings a second road match with a team from the Colonial Athletic Association when NC State visits the Tidewater area to take on Old Dominion in Norfolk, Va.
ODU (5-1) suffered its first loss of the season last Sunday, 2-1, at Radford. The Monarchs will take on Akron Friday evening and then host the Wolfpack Sunday at 1 p.m.
Shavon Knight leads ODU in scoring with 16 points on seven goals and two assists, while Victoria Johnson has four goals and four assists for 12 points on the year. Lauren Tupman has been the only goalie used this season and has a sparkling 0.81 GAA with 11 saves and three clean sheets.

NC State is 2-0-1 all-time against ODU, which includes a 1-1 tie last season in Raleigh.
The Pack completes the non-conference portion of its schedule next Wednesday at home with North Florida at 3 p.m. from NC State Soccer Stadium.
