RALEIGH, N.C. Behind junior Alan Sanchez’s two goals, the NC State men’s soccer team defeated visiting VMI, 3-1, Tuesday night at the first ever night game at the NC State Soccer Stadium. The Pack (1-3-1) tallied 21 shots for the game against the Keydets (0-4) and picked up the first win of the season.
The Wolfpack would get on the scoreboard first at the 9:00 mark in the first half. Tyler Lassiter won the ball around midfield and found Ronnie Bouemboue on the left flank. Bouemboue dribbled towards goal and let a shot go from about 25 yards out through traffic and into the VMI net.
NC State would add one more before the half in the 34th minute. Stanley Mathurin took a free kick from around midfield and drove it into the VMI PK box where Sanchez got his foot to the ball and deposited the shot at the 33:40 mark.
The Keydets would cut the lead in half, when Barrett Lukhoj knocked in a John Sisco corner kick at the 64:05 mark to get VMI within a goal.
The Pack would add an insurance goal just 18 seconds later, when Sanchez converted a penalty kick at the 64:23 mark.
