Women's Tennis Finishes First Day of UNCW Collegiate Invite

WILMINGTON, N.C. Three members of the NC State women's tennis team completed the first day of competition at the UNCW Collegiate Invitational with multiple successes. The tournament began Friday, Sept. 12 with doubles matches, and completed with singles play. Competition will continue throughout the day on Saturday, Sept. 13 before finals on Sunday, Sept. 14.
Freshman Pender Sessoms teamed up with Susan Bitetti of Furman to defeat Elisa Simonetti and Daleen Kloppers of Elon, 8-3. The pair went straight into their second match of the morning, and emerged with the win over Lauren Isenhour and Christina Lee of UNCW, 8-3. Sessoms and Bitetti will play against Rocio Cabanilla and Aurey LePottier of ECU tomorrow morning at 9 a.m.
After receiving a first round bye, senior Neils Barringer and freshman Diana Mortlock took down Priscilla Roberts and Kayla Schwenk of UNCW, 8-5. The duo will compete against Jocelyn Ffriend and Hanes Harris of North Carolina on Saturday at 9 a.m.
In her first singles match of the tournament, Barringer took down Jennifer Betts (Furman), 6-1, 7-5. Barringer will play Cabanilla (ECU) on Saturday at 1:45 p.m. Mortlock defeated LePottier, 7-5, 6-4, and will play Lucy Dougherty of UNC Greensboro on Saturday at 12:15 p.m. Sessoms fell to Lindsay Leblang (UNCW), 7-6(3), 6-0, and will compete against Jessica Eblen on Saturday at 10:45 a.m. in a consolation match.
