Men's Soccer Falls in OT at #14 UNC

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. The NC State men’s soccer team fell in overtime at No. 14 North Carolina, 2-1, Friday night in Chapel Hill. In the ACC opener for both squads, the Tar Heels (4-0-1, 1-0 ACC) scored just over two minutes into overtime, and erased a one-goal deficit after the Pack (0-3-1, 0-1 ACC) scored the game’s first goal.
The Wolfpack tallied the lone score of the first half in the 37th minute. Sophomore Alan Sanchez fired a shot onto the UNC goal, and freshman Watt Williams followed the shot and slotted the rebound into the back of the net at the 36:32 mark.
The Tar Heels would even the game in the 66th minute off a goal from Chris Lebo off assists from Michael Callahan and Cameron Brown at the 65:21 mark.
UNC would come away with the conference win, when Garry Lewis headed in a Callahan cross at the 92:20 mark.
Christopher Widman started his first game of the season in goal for the Pack, and finished with seven saves as the Tar Heels outshot the Pack 16-8.
NC State played the game without sophomore Tyler Lassiter, who was serving a one game red-card suspension.
The Wolfpack will return to action this Tuesday, when NC State plays host to VMI at 7:00 p.m. at the NC State Soccer Stadium.
