Volleyball to Host Hilton/RTP NC State Classic

RALEIGH, N.C. Head coach Charita J. Stubbs and the Wolfpack volleyball program will host the Hilton/RTP NC State Classic this weekend, Sept. 12-13, at historic Reynolds Coliseum on campus. The weekend tournament marks the Pack’s first appearance on its home court this season.
Norfolk State, UNC Asheville, Western Carolina and William & Mary will round out the tournament field.
Four matches will be played on each day of action. On Friday, Sept. 12, William & Mary will begin play against UNC Asheville (10 a.m.), with State following up against Norfolk State (12 noon). The night session will start with UNC Asheville pitted against Norfolk State (5 p.m.), followed by NC State versus William & Mary (7 p.m.).
On Saturday, Sept. 13, William & Mary will take on Norfolk State (10 a.m.) before NC State and Western Carolina (12 noon) square off. Action will come to a close at night as William & Mary battle Western Carolina (5 p.m.) before the Pack closes out against UNC Asheville (7 p.m.).
NC State (2-6) picked up two-straight decisions last weekend in Colorado Springs, Colo., downing Montana State (3-0) and hosting Air Force (3-2) at the U.S. Air Force Academy Volleyball Tournament. Arlee Tamietti leads the squad in kills with 71, while Alex Smith has team-highs in assists (195) and service aces (6). Kelly Wood is tops on the roster in digs (94), while Margaret Salata owns the most total blocks (25).
UNC Asheville and William & Mary both enter the weekend at 3-3, while Norfolk State stands at 2-6. Western Carolina remains winless at 0-7.
The Pack is 18-6 all-time against the tournament field, previously going 8-0 against Western Carolina, 2-0 versus UNC Asheville and 8-6 head-to-head with William & Mary. State and Norfolk State have never faced off on the court.
Next weekend, Sept. 19-20, NC State will head to Greenville, N.C. for the East Carolina Tournament. The Pack will take on Morgan State, Marshall and hosting East Carolina.
